OUR FOREST UNDER ATTACK

What was promised to be a green lung is now under attack by greedy developers eager to make short term profits at the expense of the Kota Damansara residents who will have to suffer the long term consequences.

 

The Kota Damanasara Community Forest Park is the oldest forest reserve in Malaysia. This 100-year forest is now in danger of being totally wiped out. Without the forest, Kota Damansara will have lost a big sponge to soak up the water. During a heavy rainfall this water will run off the hill and we will have floods, land slide and hotter homes.

 

The devastation of the Forest in Bukit Cahaya, Shah Alam angered the Prime Minister when he flew over the area in 2005. Now in less than two years and in spite of all the publicity of power abuses, the residents of Kota Damansara are witnessing a similar devastation at their door step.

Kota Damansara Community Forest Park

The Kota Damansara Community Forest Park is located within the vicinity of Kota Damansara and is the last remaining area of what was previously 4000 acres of forest reserve.

ImageEstablished in 1898, it is the oldest forest reserve in Peninsular Malaysia. Today, the future of the remaining 857 acres of forest is uncertain.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you are keen to volunteer your expertise or time, let us know! We are looking for volunteers in the many areas, some that come to mind are:

  • Computer Graphic Design
  • Writers (To write articles for web site from environmental to social issues)
  • Youth Leaders (outdoor activities/also to help out in Rakan Muda activities)
  • Grass Futsal Captain (help organise weekly competitions)
  • Sand Volley Ball Captain (help organise weekly competitions)
  • Net-workers (Prepared to meet representatives of other organisations and work out smart partnerships)

What you get from volunteering

Teh Tarik, great company, Friendly team work and you will learn more than what you put in (cos many talented people and professionals are involved)...ooh don't expect credit or fame..most of us are low profile kinna people and we like it that way.

 

We are also able to accomodate volunteers who wanna contribute from 1 hour per month to those who wanna contribute 8 hours per day. (Ability to collaborate over the internet would be an advantage).
